GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — China captain Zheng Zhi has been granted a permit to play for Celtic.

The 29-year-old striker signed a two-year contract to play for the Hoops but needed clearance to complete the move.

Celtic announced on Friday that Zheng, who can also play in midfield, received an endorsement from the Scottish Football Association which enabled him to get a United Kingdom work permit. The striker spent three years at English club Charlton.

“Zheng Zhi is a player I have tracked for some time,” Celtic manager Tony Mowbray said.

“He will significantly add to the squad with his quality and the fact he can play in a number of positions.”
