SUMNER — Selectmen could not agree this week on what to do with land on Mollyocket Mountain that voters have refused to have surveyed and cleared for a possible windmill project.

Selectman Glen Hinkley said he thought there were several people interested in buying the 114 acres off the Redding Road. He said he heard some wanted a windmill and others didn’t.

“There are abutters to the land who may be interested in the land, which is not very suitable for anything and is landlocked,” Selectman Mark Silber said.

Selectmen could not agree on whether to put the land up for sale or not.

Also at their meeting Tuesday night, Ozzie Hart was interviewed for the position of interim animal control officer. The vacancy occurred when Dannie Paine died recently.

Hart, who serves nearly 10 towns in the area, said he would be interested in doing the job temporarily. Selectmen questioned whether he is related to Maurice Hart, who has had complaints brought against him for years for having barking dogs. Ozzie Hart said he is related, but he treats everyone the same. If a person is in violation, they would receive a notice and he would follow through.

When asked if he was comfortable going to court, Hart replied that he had taken some 1,500 cases to court and only lost two.

The board voted to appoint Hart to the post for 90 days.

Road Commissioner Jim Keach said he had finished paving for the year, including Fields Hill Road that was started last year. Silber thanked Keach for his quick response to clearing roads after the tornado last month.
