ALFRED, Maine (AP) — A Maine man charged with killing two brothers has a bail hearing scheduled for Sept. 30.

Justice Roland Cole will hear arguments and witness testimony in York County Superior Court in Alfred.

The 55-year-old Holland is charged in the fatal shootings of Gage and Derek Greene on June 30. He surrendered to police and has since been held without bail in the York County Jail.

The Portland Press Herald reports defense attorney Clifford Strike has suggested that Holland might have feared for his own life at the time.

Maine State Police affidavits indicate 19-year-old Gage Greene pushed Holland just before Holland pulled a handgun from his waistband and shot him. The court papers also say 21-year-old Derek Greene was running toward the area where his brother had fallen when Holland shot him.
