RUMFORD — On Sept. 4, Therapy Services staff began moving small equipment, computers and files to its new quarters on the first floor of Rumford Hospital. Over the weekend, professional movers took care of the heavy equipment. The space it now occupies was formerly most of the Med/Surg Unit and the entire Intensive Care Unit.
Therapy Services has grown over the past few years and now includes seven physical therapists, three occupational therapists and a speech therapist. The new space will afford each of the therapists adequate desk space. Patients will have more privacy because the former ICU space is comprised of five private rooms in addition to a central open room. Former Med/Surg rooms have been converted for use as office space and a specialized hand therapy room.
New equipment has been purchased to outfit the new spaces and some pieces were moved from the old space on the second floor. Some of the equipment was left behind to serve Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation patients.
