OTISFIELD — The Otisfield Historical Society will sponsor a retrospective show and brief talk on Otisfield artist Jean Randall on Thursday, Sept. 24. The program will begin at 7 p.m. at the Otisfield Community Hall, Route 121.

Randall lived and worked in Otisfield from 1974 until 1984. She is remembered well by the many people whose lives she touched. Her work typically consists of complex layered woodblock prints in oil paint. Most are scenes in Otisfield, a place where she found solace and joy in the beauty of her surroundings as well as comfort and support from her friends and neighbors. A number of her prints will be on display.

Randall also printed on textiles, and the dress she made for Ethel Bean Turner will be shown. Made of green wool, the jumper style dress features long sleeves of a light colored fabric on which Randall block printed natural designs of leaves and flowers.

Randall received numerous prizes for her art. Her prints were also shown in the Westbrook College Museum of Art. The evening presentation will be given by Jean’s daughter, Ellen, who now lives in New Mexico. The program is free and all are welcome.
