Winthrop 2, Wiscasset 0
WINTHROP — Karen Rice snapped a scoreless tie early in the second half with a goal on a feed from Elaine Theriault, and the pair combined for another with nine minutes to play, lifting Winthrop to a 2-0 girls’ soccer victory over visiting Wiscasset on Monday in an MVC matchup.
Michelle Lough earnd the win for Winthrop (2-2-1) with eight saves, while Wiscasset’s Abby Austin stopped 12 in a losing effort. The Ramblers outshot the Redskins (0-4), 18-10.
Lincoln Academy 1, Oak Hill 0
NEWCASTLE — Megan Peavey emerged from a goalmouth scrum and booted the ball past Oak Hill goalie Maggie Sabine with 18 minutes remaining in the second half to lift Lincoln Academy to a 1-0 win over the Raiders on Monday in KVAC soccer action.
The goal was unassisted, and lifted the Eagles to their second victory of the season. Emma Lezzari protected the victory with four saves.
Sabine stopped seven for Oak Hill (0-3-1) in the loss.
Yarmouth 4, Gray-NG 1
GRAY — Devin Simsarian followed her goal late in the first half with another early in the second to pace Yarmouth to a 4-1 win over Gray-New Gloucester in the Patriots’ home-opener Monday.
Rebecca Bell added a goal and a helper for the Clippers (3-0-1), and Danielle Tores had the other strike. Samantha Folkler made five saves in the victory.
Gray-New Gloucester freshman Amnanda Giggey earned her first varsity goal late in the second half to put the Patriots (0-3-0) on the board, while teammate Taylor Damon stopped eight shots in the loss.
