EAST DIXFIELD — Maine volunteer musicians closed out the 2009 season at the Countryfolk Music Theatre on Route 2 over Labor Day weekend. The Dick Curless Appreciation Weekend attracted 67 musicians from across the state and more than $500 was raised for Countryfolk Youth Music Scholarships.

Larry Bisbee, organizer of the weekly country music gatherings said, “We are very happy with the scholarship donations and want to thank all the volunteers who make it possible, those musicians who come each week and to all the folks that bring food for the weekly potluck Sunday meals.”

Eight Dick Curless look-a-likes showed up and Jim “G” of Livermore Falls was judged the best. Bisbee gave an overview of Curless’ life and Donald Dyer of Dexter gave a summation of his life as Dyer knew him.

Bisbee said the next Countryfolk Music Theatre season will start on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend 2010. They hope to give $1,000 in youth music scholarships and send a couple of youth to music camp next year. “It’s been a great 10 years,” he said.
