Firefighters battled a blaze on Route 302 in Bridgton on Wednesday night after smoke
was reported rolling from the upper floors at about 7 p.m. Fire Chief Glen Garland said no one was inside the 2½-story home when the fire began. The house is owned by a local woman and was vacant while work was being done on the interior. Three rooms on the second floor were damaged by fire and smoke while the first-floor damage was mostly limited to water, Garland said. There was no indication that the fire was suspicious, he said.
