RUMFORD – Young pro football fans will have the opportunity to exhibit their football skills when the Rumford Parks and Rumford Lodge of Elks No. 862 host an NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick competition on Sunday, Sept. 27. The competition is free and open to boys and girls ages 8 to 15.
It will be held at Hosmer Field at 9 a.m. for boys and girls ages 8-11 followed by the 12-15 group at 10 a.m. Registration begins a half-hour before competition starts. Each participant must fill out a registration form and have it signed by their parent or legal guardian. They also must give/provide a valid copy of their birth certificate in order to compete. Entry forms will be available the day of the competition. Coaches of AYF football teams will also have copies of the forms as well.
The NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick football competition allows youngsters to showcase their talents in punting, passing, and place kicking with scores based on distance and accuracy. Age classification is as of Dec. 31 of the current year. Top finishers from each of eight age groups at the local competition will advance to a Sectional competition. The winners at the Sectional competition will have their scores compared with other Sectional champions, and the top five scores from the pool of Sectional champions advance to the New England Patriots Team Championship.
Age group champions at this level will be declared NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick team champions. The top four finishers in the boys’ and girls’ divisions within each age bracket form the pool of Team Champions will qualify for the national finals at an NFL playoff game in January. A number of NFL players have competed in Punt, Pass & Kick, including to quarterbacks such as Hall of Famer Dan Marino and Drew Bledsoe.

Final senior hockey registrations Sunday
AUBURN – The L/A Senior Adult Hockey League is going into its 15th season and will be hosting its final registrations Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pond House near Ingersoll Ice Arena in Auburn.
Registration fee will remain at $355 per player and is due at time of registration. The registration is for all returning players as well as new players wanting to enter the league. All new players will have their names placed on the draft list. The player draft will be held on a later date. The amount of new players entering the league will be based on the amount of openings.
The season is scheduled to start the weekend of Oct. 3-4. Games will be mostly played on Friday and Sunday nights.
