LEWISTON — Tri-County Mental Health Services has appointed Dr. Thomas R. Sneed as medical director. He he will provide oversight and management of the agency’s psychiatric staff and programs, which serve thousands of Maine people each year.
The community is invited to meet Sneed in person at a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Tri-County offices, 230 Bartlett St.
Sneed earned his medical degree at the University of South Carolina and completed his internship at the VA Medical Center in Roanoke, Va. He studied general psychiatry at William S. Hall Institute in Columbia, S.C. Most recently he worked at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.
He has experience within many types of treatment programs, including acute inpatient psychiatry, residential substance abuse treatment, general outpatient for adults, and children and adolescents. He believes in a holistic view of psychiatric care, incorporating medications along with the latest and most effective treatment methods.
Tri-County serves nearly 10,000 individuals each year in Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin and Oxford counties and beyond with programs and services addressing mental health, substance abuse, mental retardation, developmental disabilities, autism and more. The agency is a state, regional and national leader in trauma-informed and recovery-based service delivery.
