PARIS — An Oxford County jury has acquitted Agostino Samson of murder after more than a day of deliberation.
Samson, 23, had been charged with killing his former employer, 25-year-old Scott Libby of Raymond, last February in Bethel.
Libby, who employed Samson in his landscaping business in 2008, was found dead after his vehicle was driven onto the railroad tracks in Bethel and was later struck by a train. Libby died of blunt force trauma to the neck and head, which the medical examiner ruled was inconsistent with the collision.
Samson had been living in a hostel in Bethel at the time of Libby’s death and has consistently denied any involvement in the crime.
The eight women, four men jury started their deliberations Monday afternoon, and returned to the courtroom Tuesday morning to review testimony before reconvening their deliberations mid-morning.
In making his closing arguments Monday morning, defense attorney Maurice Porter said the state had not proved Samson’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, and also accused the police investigators of shoddy work.
