WELD — If you like it hot, you may want to attend the “Some Like It Hot!” Firemen’s Ball at 7 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Kawanhee Inn, located on the shore of Webb Lake. It will benefit the volunteer Weld Fire Department.

The theme can be interpreted as “hot” like firemen, Marilyn Monroe, chili peppers or devils, but wearing costumes is optional, town Board of Selectmen Chairman Nancy Stowell said.

“Some Like It Hot” options can be expanded to spicy food, hot weather, hot as in sexy, the movie by that title, or whatever someone considers to fit the theme, she said.

This is the second Firemen’s Ball. The first was in 2007, and the 2008 ball benefited the library so the two organizations alternate years, she said.

“The owners of the Kawanhee Inn are extremely gracious to allow the two groups to hold this event. It is scheduled at the closing of the Inn for the season,” Stowell said.

Tickets for the ball are $10 a person if you sign up early at the Weld General Store, Weld Town Office, Morning Glory Bakery or the Kawanhee Inn. They will increase to $15 at the door the night of the dance. No one under 21 years of age will be allowed at the cash bar.

Prior to the ball, inn owners Chris and Jodi Huntington and chef Bryan Benoit are serving a buffet that will also benefit the Fire Department, Stowell said.

The buffet starts at 5 p.m. And those tickets will cost $11.95. To order tickets in advance, call 585-2000.

People can just go to the buffet if they want to support the firemen or they can partake in both the buffet and the ball, Stowell said.

The Weld Fire Department and its team of first responders cover accidents, fires, medical emergencies, and many times are called out to assist injured hikers on Tumbledown and Bald Mountain trails, Stowell said.
