LEWISTON – The Lisbon St. Getty Mart Sr. Redskins improved to 3-1 with a convincing 13-0 win over the Bath Iron Works Steelers in weekend FLY football action. Jeffrey Clark Jr, was the workhorse on offense, running for 98 yards and two touchdowns behind a solid offensive line that included Aldean Porter, Chad Dumais and Lily Fundis. William Adams and Brendan Duguay also ran the ball well for the Redskins. Fundis led the defense with six tackles, while Clark, Jason Gonzalez, Joey Gonzalez and Ryan Jones put constant pressure on the Steelers backfield. Chad Hinkley intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter to preserve the shutout. Kyle Morin led the Steelers offense with 118 rushing yards behind the blocking of Shammond Thomas, Demitri Kroening and Christopher Hazelton. Defensively, the Steelers received big games from James Flynn, Morin, Curtis Kaplinger, Trevor Gagnon and Jacob McBride.
In other Senior action, the Twins Variety Giants continued their winning ways with a 26-6 victory over the Sam Francis State Farm Lions. Quintarian Brown started the scoring with a 20-yard TD run. Ryan Bell and Logan Lavoie also added scores on some tough runs. The offensive line of Kevin Dillingham, Eli Cady, Zach Abisalih, Tanner Pitman, Kody Voisine, Ben Howell and Colin Mannon opened ample holes for the backs. Ethan Hoffay returned an interception 65 yards for a TD to finish the Giants’ scoring. Abisalih made some key stops in the Lions backfield. The Lions offense got a lift from Nick Harnden and Tim Robinson, while Legend Edwards, Isaac Cote, Elijah Harris, Robinson and Isaiah Harris each made multiple tackles on defense. Isaiah Harris registered a pair of quarterback sacks. Robinson scored the lone Lions TD after he stripped a Giants running back of the ball abd returned it for a score.
The Softlight Studios Jr. Lions won for the third time in four starts with a hard-fought, 25-20 win over the Grimmel’s Gas-Up Giants. Quarterback Mikeal St. Pierre led the Lions with help from a strong offensive line of Michaela Saucier, Austin Heath, Durrell Jackson, Jared Rubin, Miles Teague and Tyson Cote. Julian Raines scored two TDs for the Lions and also threw a scoring pass to Desmond Jackson for his first trip to the end zone this season. Josh Kobel added the Lions’ final TD. Defensive leaders for the Lions were Stephan Porter, Ricky Cote, Kobel, Durrell Jackson and Rubin. Tyson Cote and Kobel each recovered fumbles. For the Giants, Gage Cote started the scoring with an electrifying 65-yard kick return with help from key blocks by Caden Begos and Lucas Nichols. Cote also sparked the offense with TD runs of 22 and 53 yards. Noah Jalbert (five tackles, fumble recovery), Keegan Voss (five tackles), Thomas Brochu (fumble recovery), Cote (eight tackles) and Tanner Sturgis (three tackles) all fought hard for the Giants defense.
Defense reigned in the other Junior tilt, a 7-0 win by the Sabattus Disc Golf Jr. Steelers over the Gee &Bee Sporting Goods Redskins. The victory kept the Steelers in a first-place tie with the Lions. Garrett Poussard scored the game’s only TD and ran the ball well throughout. Jaznel Burns added the extra point. Nick Kelly and Bryan Wagg led the defensive effort, with Wagg recovering a fumble. Christian Fowler (15 tackles) had a solid defensive effort for the ‘Skins, while Damon Gagne (eight tackles), Keyshawn Green (five) and Jayden Wilson (four) also fought hard. Antonio Beaupre and Dominic Fournier each recovered a fumble. Tanner Cortes, Grant Hartley, Connor Jewett, John Mathon Jr., Colby Desjardins, Gordon Beckwith, Marcus Caron and Michael Samboy all pitched in for the Redskins offense.
