LEWISTON — L and A Veterans Council Chairman Paul R. Bernard and past Chairman and founder Bertrand A. Dutil has announced the completion of the 18th veteran’s memorial stone, scheduled to be unveiled at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Veteran’s Memorial Park.

The stone carries 216 veterans names. The total number of veterans named in the park will be 3,887.

The L and A Veterans Council is now accepting applications for the 19th veterans memorial stone scheduled to be unveiled on Memorial Day, 2010.

Any veteran in Maine or with ties to Maine may have his or her name in the park. The individual does not have to be deceased.
An individual must be a veteran honorably discharged from one of the branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, Reserves or National Guard. Veterans or family members who desire to have a name engraved on a stone, but who do not possess the necessary forms can obtain them with the help of the Vet Center at 29 Westminster St., or by calling 783-0068. The cost of engraving is $35.

Applications can be obtained by contacting the chairman at [email protected], call 225-3285 or mail to the registered office at 451 Lower St., Turner, ME 04282. Also available are applications for memorial benches and honor pavers.
