POLAND — Poland resident and longtime musician Daniel Mickool is spearheading an effort to create a musical choir in the area. The project, which he has named CANTUS, will be modeled after the British choral tradition.

Mickool will hold open auditions beginning this week. Membership is by informal audition for soprano, alto, treble, tenor and bass parts. Various instrumentation will be used for accompaniment.

Sight reading and basic music skills are required. Choristers will learn blending and tonal qualities and will be challenged by a variety of classic works, both old and new. Composers will include Rutter, Willcocks, Tavener and Vaughan Williams. The choir will also tackle more challenging pieces as time goes on.

Mickool expects the group to rehearse once weekly in the Poland area during the fall. He hopes the group will be able to present a Lessons and Carols service in December.
