LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine will offer a pottery class for children ages 2 and up. “Come Play in the Clay” will be offered from 10 to 11 a.m. and again from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15. A follow-up time will be planned where children will glaze the pottery piece they created.
Children will learn basic hand-building and wheel throwing techniques to create a unique piece of pottery. Pottery will be kiln fired and then painted. Students will bring home a finished handmade pot. The pot will be fired and ready two days after glazing.
Cost of the two-part class is $18 for YWCA members and $22 for non-members. The price includes all materials and instruction. The classes will take place in the Vachon Meeting Room at the YWCA, 130 East Ave.
The classes will be taught by Lindsey Tomlinson-Peck. Tomlinson-Peck has been learning, working and teaching pottery for the last 13 years. She owns and runs The Mudroom, her own clay studio in Auburn. She teaches pottery lessons and workshops to students ages 2 and up.
Limited space is available. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Those attending should request either the 10 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. session upon registration.
