Dear Sun Spots: I need your help. My co-worker J.R. at the Eagles Aerie 618 says that Joe Bornstein is a real person. Since no one has seen him on TV, I say that he doesn’t exist. I believe it’s a company name. Plus, I think Joe Bornstein is really a woman named Josephine B. Please settle this argument. — Gerry D., Lewiston

Answer: Gerry, I think you might have to pay up on this bet. Here is a bio of Joe Bornstein from the Web site:

“Joseph L. Bornstein founded and established the Law Offices of Joe Bornstein 34 years ago on the Portland waterfront in the city’s historic Old Port district. Since then, Joe and the firm have represented more than 15,000 clients. A fervent supporter of charitable organizations and education throughout the state of Maine, Joe is also an active member of the Maine State Bar Association, the Maine Trial Lawyers’ Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Currently, he is serving on the Leadership Group for the Maine Campaign for Justice.”

Sun Spots called their offices, hoping to get a picture of Bornstein, but the receptionist thought it was a practical joke, hung up and refused to take any further calls. (Perhaps she will see this and send Sun Spots a photo.) As for actor Robert Vaughn doing the commercials, many firms, large and small, use actors as their front men.

Dear Sun Spots: Would any of your readers have a Pitchnut board game (I think that’s what it is called) that they are willing to sell at a reasonable price? Please contact me at my e-mail address granandtt@gmail.com Thank you. — Tina, No Town

Answer: If no reader can assist you, try visiting www.pitchnut.com for a complete description of the game. They also have a form to order a game, but no price is listed. It says they will send you purchase details. The site offers this description of the game: “Pitchnut is a variation of the French-Canadian game pichenotte, which comes from the game carom, which is believed to have originated from India.”

Dear Sun Spots: The community is invited to a dinner dance on Oct. 4 at Tuscany Hall (formerly Hillside Racquetball Club) on Route 26 in South Paris. We will have a DJ/comedian/entertainer who will play from 3 to 8 p.m. Dinner will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Our silent auction will run from 3 to 7:30 p.m.

We have collected several hundred dollars in donations for the auction, so there will be great opportunities to get some wonderful buys at this event. On top of that, Modern Woodmen of America is giving us a $2,500 matching grant dedicated to the dinner dance. Tickets are limited, so we encourage everyone to get them early at South Paris Save-A-Lot, Books N Things in Norway or from one of the committee members.

The committee members are Carrie Andrews, Rick Cook, Kyrstan Tift, Gail and Joe Bumbaca, Kim and Tom Myhre, Lynne and Bob Schott and myself (743-0731).

All money raised goes to the Beth’s House savings account held at Norway Savings Bank in Norway. Beth Coffin has spinal muscular atrophy type II, and several other congenital conditions which have her paralyzed from her neck down except for a little movement of her hands. This allows her to get around in a motorized wheelchair with a joy stick. She is optimistic and compassionate. Beth is where she is through circumstances beyond her control, not because of bad choices she has made. Please help with a donation or ticket purchase. — Lois Strauss, Beth’s House Committee
