AUBURN — Captive Elements Art House has decorated the walls of Holly’s Own Deli and Restaurant with works created by four local artists who focused on the Lewiston-Auburn area. Featured are Jason Landry’s endearing night photographs of buildings and the falls; Ray Fannin’s photos of empty spaces digitally altered and printed on canvas (paintographs); Vin Myrand’s historical paintings; and Sheri Blumenthal’s rich emphasis on living with and in the city.
Holly’s is the first of several locally owned businesses to showcase what is hoped to be an expanding collection. “The works should and must be seen by as many local people as possible in an effort to persuade residents to see with their hearts and imagination rather than just with their eyes,” said curator Kerry Landry.
“Our community is not based on what the city offers to us but perhaps how we decide to be affected or influenced by what we do have,” Landry added.
The L/A art show will be up through Oct. 29. Captive Elements Art House will begin accepting new submissions for upcoming shows from 10 a.m. until noon on Sunday, Oct. 11, 18 and 25. Each artist can submit up to three pieces, along with biographical info, photo and a $10 jury fee.
Captive Elements Art House is at 25 Landry Road in Lewiston. For more information, call 312-5539.
