I am amazed at the letters to the editor that forecast the end of the sanctity of marriage and life as most people know it, as well as the many other horrendous problems this state would endure if Question 1 is not repealed in November.
I have yet to figure out how allowing anyone other than a man and a woman to marry will negatively affect me, my spouse, my family, my community or my world.
There are very few people in this world who have never done anything that is supposedly against God’s word and the Ten Commandments. Those who live in glass houses should not cast the first stone. We are talking about the equality and rights of our friends, neighbors and family members who wish to create a loving, caring, lifetime commitment to each other.
I will be voting “no” on Question 1.
The ballot question concerning reducing the excise tax is not what it appears to be.
If I understand it correctly, for those owning a car that is more than five years old, the reduction would not apply. However, real estate taxes would increase to make up for the lost revenue. People would have to decide if they want to pay more in property taxes to offset the loss of funds a town would receive in excise taxes if this question passes, knowing that it helps only those who can afford newer cars.
I will be voting “no” on that ballot question.
