SOUTH PARIS — Students of Scott Currie’s Team Green at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School will have on display at the school library working wind turbine models capable of generating electricity, especially for neighborhoods and individual homes. The public is invited to view the display at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5.
Students and Currie will explain how wind-powered generating devices work and how they can be built and used.
With the new school year, Team Green has been attracting students interested in putting alternative energy methods in place in Oxford Hills. Their concern, said Currie, is to learn about and gain practical experience in dealing with problems related to climate change and a future of decreased availability of fossil fuels – oil and coal.
The agenda is shared by Sustainable Oxford Hills, a local group focused on education and action aimed at promoting local use of alternative energy sources and satisfaction of basic needs from within the local community.
Currie, a member of Sustainable Oxford Hills, said Team Green will also take part in the Renewable Energy Festival at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, to be held on Saturday, Oct. 24. The event, organized by Sustainable Oxford Hills, will take place on a “worldwide day of action” on behalf of reducing carbon products released into the atmosphere to 350 parts per million, or less. There, Team Green will join discussion groups, workshops and exhibits espousing local sustainability.
