LEWISTON — HealthSteps, part of the prevention and wellness services offered through St. Mary’s Health System, offers a wide range of classes with the core membership fee as well as a variety of specialty classes, including:
Intermediate Belly Dancing: Belly dancing provides cardiovascular exercise that tones muscles, but the moves are gentle and flowing. Dress comfortably in workout clothing. Stockings or bare feet are preferred. Class will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 19 to Nov. 9, in the Lepage Large Conference Room, 99 Campus Ave. Cost is $45.
Gentle Exercise: The class is designed for those with arthritis, recovering from cancer or any other individual who desires a mild form of exercise. Class will meet from 9 to 9:45 a.m.
Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 6 to Nov. 5, in the St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion Resident Dining Room, 102 Campus Ave. Cost is $22 or free with core membership.
Osteoball: The class is designed for individuals recovering from cancer, those who have bone and joint related conditions and other individuals who desire a mild yet effective form of resistance training. Class will meet from 9:50 to 10:35 a.m.
Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 6 to Nov. 5, in the St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion Resident Dining Room. Cost is $22.
Pilates: The six-week pilates mat class is based on the teachings of Joseph Pilates. Students can expect full body strengthening with particular emphasis on the core musculature. Students should wear nonrestrictive attire and bring a pilates/yoga mat. Classes will be held on Thursdays, Oct. 29 to Dec. 10, in the Lepage Large Conference Center, 99 Campus Ave. The beginner class will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and the intermediate class will meet from 6:45 to 7:45 pm.
The instructor will be Kerrie Poulin and cost is $60 each session.
Prenatal Yoga: The class is geared for women in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Heidi L. Hayes-Audet, RYT, will guide expectant mothers through postures and breathing techniques. Yoga students need to bring a pillow, one to two blankets, a yoga strap and a water bottle. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and avoid eating a heavy meal an hour before class. Class will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 21 to Nov. 18, in the Lepage Large Conference Room. Cost is $50.
Racquetball: Specific time slots are available for registration Monday through Friday on the hour, for an hour, from 6 a.m. until noon. The cost with core membership is $14 for the entire fall session, which runs through Dec. 18. Without a core membership, one hour, once a week is $50 or one hour, twice week is $80. Racquetball is played in the Merrill Gymnasium, Bates College, 141 Russell St.
Senior Fitness: The class will provide participants with a safe and effective workout that includes a warm-up, cardiovascular component, resistance training to build strength, balance and flexibility exercises. Class will meet from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. or 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Oct. 5 to Nov. 6, in the St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion Resident Dining Room. Cost is $30.
Tai Chi: The introductory class will teach a simple form and supportive exercises to promote health and longevity. Class will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Tuesdays, Oct. 13 to Nov. 17, in the Lepage Large Conference Room, except on Oct. 13, when the class will be held in the Bank of America Room, Corinne Croteau Lepage Women’s Health Pavilion, 330 Sabattus St.
Cost is $50.
Vinyasa Yoga Flow: The beginner class is an athletic vinyasa format (meaning poses and breath energetically flow together). Participants should wear loose clothing or a leotard, avoid eating one to two hours before class, and bring a yoga mat and water bottle. Class will meet from 5 to 6 p.m.
Wednesdays,
Oct. 21 to Nov. 18, in the Lepage Large Conference Center.
Cost is $45.
