Leon Almon Winter Jr.

WELD – A public memorial service of Thanksgiving for the life of Leon Almon Winter Jr., “Almon,” of Weld, was held Saturday morning, Oct. 3, at the Weld Congregational Church with the Revs. Robert “Bob” Edgarton and Margaret Proctor co-officiating.

Organist was Bruce McInness. Congregational hymns included “How Great Thou Art,” and “Blest Be the Tie that Binds.” The congregation recited Psalm 23 in unison. Scripture readings were selected verses from John 14 and Romans 8. The congregation also shared in the singing of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”

Following the benediction, the Mystic Tie Masonic Lodge of Weld performed the Masonic Ritual. Full military honors were provided by members of the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post No. 3335, the Lane Dube Amvets Post No. 33, the Weld American Legion Post and Camp Keyes, Augusta.

Private interment will be held at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. Arrangements were in the care of the Wiles Remembrance Center, 136 High St., Wilton.
