La Survivance

LEWISTON – La Survivance Française will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, in the Senior Room at the Multi-Purpose Center. The yearly calendar of events will be announced followed by a singalong directed by the Vice President Hélène Sylvain and accompanied on the keyboard by Roger Bouffard. Thérèse Deschenes will serve as hostess. New members are welcome.

Grange meeting
AUBURN – Androscoggin Pomona Grange will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Danville Junction Grange for a 6:30 p.m. supper. During the meeting, which begins at 7:30, the fifth degree will be performed. Any Pomona Grange candidates for this degree are welcome. There will be a 50/50 drawing and an attendance drawing. All members and guests are welcome.

Community forum

LEWISTON – Outright/Lewiston-Auburn, a program that works with gay and lesbian youth, will host a community forum to present a recent report from the Governor’s Commission on LGBTQ youth. The forum will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.

The forum will feature a speaker’s panel that will include Thom Harnett, assistant attorney general for civil rights education and enforcement; Susan Savell, director of communities for children and youth; Penny Sargent, Outright/LA program coordinator; and local youth members of Outright/Lewiston-Auburn.

The Governor’s Commission was convened to explore issues affecting LGBTQ youth and young adults and to make recommendations based on the available data.

Osteoporosis

LEWISTON – St. Mary’s Physical Therapist Becky Harrington will present an information session about osteoporosis from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Oct. 6, in the second floor conference room at the Center for Physical Rehabilitation, Trolley Medical Building, 77 Bates St. She will explain what osteoporosis is, its symptoms, how it is diagnosed and how cancer patients have a higher risk for developing the disease. Harrington will also provide strategies for achieving better bone health.

Literay union

AUBURN – The Woman’s Literary Union will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at the clubhouse, 19 Elm St. The featured speaker will be Tammie Grieshaber, owner/photographer of Mainely Kids Photography. She creates unique works of digital art, photographing children, families, business people and pets.

She is a member of the Maine Women’s Network, an organization helping women in business to build their capacity for networking and supporting each other. Hospitality will be provided by Evelyn Larrabee and Maureen Tibbets and house decorations will be provided by Tonie Ramsey.

Refreshments will be served and the public is welcome.

Bridge play

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club held its quarterly Club Championship Game on Sept. 29 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Ron and Connie Reynolds; second, Jeanine Kivus and Rosemarie Goodwin; third, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner; fourth, David Lock and Patricia Garcia. Winners in Flight B were: first, Ron and Connie Reynolds; second, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner. A club appreciation game will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the center.

The club also held a quarterly Club Championship Game on Sept. 30 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners were: first, Fred Letourneau and Sherry Hinckley; seond, Luke Merry and Anna Vitiello; tied at third, Alberta Turner and Lucille Bilodeau with Shirley West and Kate Hewitt. A club appreciation game will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Schooner Estates. A partner is guaranteed at both games. For further information, call Lucille Theriault and 783-0431.

Cribbage results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Oct.1 were: first, Anna Faucher and Robert Oliver; second, Norm Bissonnette and Steve Agurkis; third, Dick Dennis and Roger Patry; fourth, Gary David and Sandy Verrille; fifth, Guy Dube and Roger Labbe.
