Alice B. Tufts
1924 – 2009
LEWISTON — Alice B. Tufts, 85, formerly of Hancock passed away Tuesday, Oct. 6, at St. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion.
She was born in Sedgewick, May 4, 1924, the daughter of Roy and Caroline Perkins.
She grew up in Brooksville and graduated from Lee Academy, Lee, where she met her future husband, Joseph A. Tufts Jr. They married on June 14, 1943, and were together for 60 years.
She was a devoted mother, a fabulous cook and loved being a homemaker. She enjoyed knitting, sewing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, gardening, walking the beach on Hancock Point with her Labrador, Molly, and fishing with her husband, Joe.
She was a long time member of the Hancock Order of the Eastern Star, the Hancock women’s club and the Hancock Congregational Church. She brought smiles to everyone she met and was a truly beautiful person, mother and wife.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph A. Tufts III of Scarborough and Timothy R. Tufts and his wife, Irene, of Hancock; daughter, Mary E. Brushwein and her husband, Philip, of Danville; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Brushwein Roy and her husband, Benjamin, of Windham and Todd A. Tufts and his wife, Andrea, of Sharon, Conn.; and two great-grandchildren, Clelia and Macin Tufts of Shanon, Conn.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband; and special friend, Anna C. Pomroy of Hancock.
