LIVERMORE FALLS — The Good Neighbor Tri-Town Ministerial Association officially opened its fuel donation season, accepting an $85 donation from the Jay Democratic Committee at the Apple Pumpkin Festival on Sept. 26.

The Good Neighbor Committee manned a booth at the festival and informed residents on general information about the fuel program including how local funds are received and distributed. Donation jars were available as well as a display of all occasion gift cards for donations made in someone’s name.

Business cards with fuel assistance information were handed out and are available at local church rectories and town offices. Chairwoman Louise Chabot said that $16,007 was collected last year and the goal is to double that amount this year. The Good Neighbor Program was established in October 2008 in response to the large number of layoffs occurring in the tri-town area.

Funds are dispersed through Western Maine Community Action in Wilton. All donations are tax deductible and volunteers are needed. Meetings are held at 4 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the Livermore Falls Town Office. The public is invited to attend meetings. For more information, contact Louise Chabot at 897-3851 or Paul and Jean Gilbert at 897-5173.
