She was born Nov. 21, 1924, in Wakefield, Mass., the daughter of Walter Stanley and Gertrude Etsell Stanley. She graduated from Reading High School, Class of 1942.
She married Lloyd Carter Feb. 23, 1942, and worked at General Electric and the Boston Navy Yard during World War II. She was active in the antique business starting in Wakefield, Mass.
She was a partner in the Owl and Pussy Cat Shop. She set up her antiques in Brimfield, Mass., for several years and, Maine, at the Union Fairgrounds Antique Show and in a Brewer antique shop.
She spent many hours at the Burnham Auction Hall near her home in Troy, where she had her reserved seat. She loved to go to the old farm dumps to dig for old bottles and other treasures.
She helped her husband to build their new home in Wakefield in 1954 with the help of family. Most of the lumber came from family land in Troy. In 1976, Edie and Lloyd moved to the old farm in Troy, where they spent the best years of their lives.
During her later years, she traveled with her husband to Newfoundland and several trips to Alaska. She was a great companion and wife whether it was in a casino in Las Vegas, in the woods of Canada or catching salmon in Alaska thanks to Danny and Linda Webb for their hospitality in Alaska.
She was an avid member of the Troy Snowbeaters Snowmobile Club, founding member of the Troy Quilting Club and and member of the Kennebec River Rovers RV Club. For many years, she and her husband would host annual deer hunters in Troy and she would feed 10 or more men from her beloved cook stove.
She was outgoing and made many friends wherever she went. She was a great cook and could make anything her husband brought home taste good. Her greatest feat in hunting was shooting a 700 pound bull moose. She loved country living and cooking on her wood stove.
