AUBURN — The Old Danville Road at the railroad grade crossing (Danville Junction) will be closed until Wednesday, Oct. 14, instead of Friday, Oct. 9.

The crossing was closed Monday and, according to the Maine Department of Transportation, the reason for the extended date is that more time is needed for the relocation of the tracks than originally anticipated. Just like most construction projects, unforeseen reasons can delay a project, but in the long run the end result is to make the Danville Junction crossing a much safer place for residents.

The work will include relocating the Saint Lawrence & Atlantic main line crossing approximately 70 feet northeasterly of its present location, and upgrading the two Pan Am Railway crossings.

The purpose of the relocation is to close the gap between the rail crossings of SL&A and Pan Am where Station Road intersected with Old Danville Road.
