LEWISTON — A six-week studio oil painting workshop will be given by artist Michael Ranucci, through L/A Arts, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 14. The class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m.
weekly, in the DownStage at L/A Arts, 221 Lisbon St.

Participants will gain insight into the traditional “grand manner” of oil painting by completing a still life study in the studio from a preliminary drawing through finishing details, using the visual/artistic fundamentals first developed by the old masters.

Participants will work with and discuss pictorial elements such as concept, visual aesthetics, lighting, composition, techniques in paint handling, draftsmanship and materials. Basic approaches such as under painting, scumbling, glazing and other techniques will be revealed by “doing” in each participant’s painting. Individual attention and demonstrations will be stressed.

Participants should have a degree of fundamental artistic skills and will need to provide their own basic oil painting colors and supplies, specified medium, easel and a few other miscellaneous items. Basic artistic skills are recommended. Attendees will be contacted directly with a more detailed list prior to the first meeting.

The participation fee is $110 each person. The workshop requires a minimum number of students to sign up and is restricted to a maximum of 10.
