DIXFIELD — The Western Foothills School District last week unanimously approved a new
cooperative agreement with Maine Vocational Region 11 in Paris to provide technology education to
Buckfield High School students.
Mountain Valley and Dirigo high schools in Rumford and Dixfield, respectively, send their
vocational students to the Region 9 School of Applied Technology in
Mexico, district Assistant Superintendent Gloria Jenkins said. All three high schools are part of the newly formed district named Regional School Unit 10.
Last week’s joint meeting of the school district and Region 11 boards was devoted to sharing a student-prepared supper at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in Paris, which also includes the Oxford Hills Technical School.
Jenkins said RSU 10 Superintendent Tom Ward displayed the banner identifying the new district, and thanked Region 11 administrator David Mason for the work created by a graphics artist working there.
Virginia Valdes, a graphics arts teacher at Oxford Hills and owner of Valdes Design, created the new logo that combines the school colors of Mountain Valley High School, Dirigo High School and Buckfield High School.
The logo is now used on most items connected with the district.
Jenkins said the board also approved amending a policy on vocational students completing projects given to them as part of their classes, such as automotive work.
The supper-meeting in Paris took the place of the RSU 10 board’s first meeting of the month. The next meeting will be Oct. 26 at the district’s central office in Dixfield.
