LEWISTON — Police on Tuesday were investigating a pair of robberies committed at separate businesses on either side of the Androscoggin River.
A robber reportedly armed with a gun held up Roopers on
Main Street in Lewiston and fled with a paper bag full of cash, police said.
The suspect was described as a white man, 6 feet tall, wearing
glasses. He wore a white baseball cap and a blue hooded sweatshirt,
police said. That robbery occurred shortly after noon.
Police said the suspect ran in the
direction of River Valley Village Apartments (formerly Tall Pines),
where police later searched with a dog.
At about 3:30 p.m. in Auburn, a man walked into Domino’s Pizza on School Street and demanded money, police said. No weapon was displayed but the suspect kept his hands in his pockets during the heist, police said.
He was forced to flee Domino’s when a customer walked in, police said.
The suspect was described as a slim white male with a mustache, roughly 6 feet tall, wearing a light-colored jean jacket, light-colored jeans and a black winter stocking cap.
It was unclear whether there was any connection between the back-to-back robberies or if they were related to similar heists in recent days.
On Tuesday night, police said a man possibly armed with a shotgun held up the Dunkin’ Donuts on River Street in Auburn. On Saturday, a man went to the pharmacy at Shaw’s supermarket in Auburn and handed a store employee a note demanding Oxycodone.
Police in both cities are interviewing potential witnesses in the robberies and circulating photographs as their investigations continue.
