Wilfred A. Friberg
1925 – 2009
OXFORD — Wilfred A. Friberg, 84, of Oxford died at home on his farm on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
He was born in Malden, Mass., Sept. 1, 1925, the son of Robert A. and Edith Pierce Friberg. He attended schools in Malden, Mass., and faithfully served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a sonar man serving on the USS Beatty a destroyer escort ship.
He had been an electrician and spray painter and owned Quality Enameling in Woburn, Mass. When he semi-retired they moved to Maine, where he went back to work at Claristat Machine as a shipper/receiver. He enjoyed golf, fishing and gardening as well as his animals. He was a railroad enthusiast and built his own train sets. He had a wonderful life.
He married Ruth Carlson on May 20, 1950.
He is survived by his wife of Oxford; three sons, John of Pownal, Clifford of Searsmont and William of Eliot; five daughters, Wendy Barker, Christine Diffin and Ruth Rodney, all of Oxford, Amy Tracy of Farmington and Alisa Wiley of Brunswick; 25 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Gilbert Friberg of Littleton, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Lee Friberg in 2002.
