FARMINGTON — The Healthy Community Coalition will host two breast cancer awareness events on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The first will take place at Hannaford in Jay from 9 to 11 a.m. and later at Hannaford in Farmington from 12 to 2 p.m.
According to Jennifer McCormack, RN, services available will be breast health education, mammogram scheduling assistance, how to get a free mammogram, other cancer education and blood pressure screenings.
“October is breast cancer awareness month and we’d like to remind all women over 40 that a regular mammogram is one of the most important things they can do for their health,” said McCormack. “Early detection can be lifesaving and may allow for more treatment options.”
There will be gifts to all women who attend and the first five women at each site who schedule a mammogram will receive a gift certificate for a free bra.
“Maine women 40 and older who have no insurance or whose insurance does not cover annual mammograms or pap tests or women who have a high deductible may qualify to receive free services through the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program,” she said. “Enrollment in the program also qualifies women for treatment coverage should any breast or cervical conditions be diagnosed.”
Women without insurance who do not meet the income guidelines for the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program may qualify for a free mammogram through funding available from the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
