Yvon Bertrand Lebel
1926 – 2009

AUBURN — Yvon Bertrand Lebel died Oct. 23 at Clover Manor in Auburn.

He was born in Lewiston on Sept. 12, 1926. He was the youngest of four children of the late Lambert and Alice Landry Lebel. Yvon received his education at St. Peter’s School, and was a member of St. Dominic High School’s first graduating class of 1945.

He was a World War II Navy Veteran, serving from 1944 to 1946. He was married on April 19, 1949, to Marilyn Bernier Lebel. They were married for over 47 years. He owned and operated Walnut Street Cash Market for nine years, and was a meat cutter at Charest Market in Sabattus, Marcoux & Harvey, and Webb’s Market. He then worked as a custodian at Bates College — from which he retired.

He was the president of the Collectors at Saints Peter & Paul
Basilica. He started St. Dom’s paper drive back in the 40s and 50s. He was the president and founder of St. Dom’s booster club, he enjoyed devoting a lot of his time to fundraising for St. Dom’s High School. He was the President of Holy Name Society bowling team and Vice President of Holy Name Society League. He was Scout leader for St. Patrick’s Boy Scout Troop 122. He was a member of Le Club Pass-Temps, the Derby AA Club, Senior Citizen Covenant 50, Horizon 55, AARP and a past Commander of Sabattus Legion Post 135.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn Bernier Lebel, who died July 10, 1996; his parents, and three siblings.

He is survived by his daughter, Diane Dube, of Lewiston; his sons, Donald Lebel and wife, Terry, of Auburn, and Denis Lebel and wife, Tammy, of Auburn; grandchildren, Jo-Anne Leuteman, Derek Dube, Toby Lebel, Heidi Lachapelle, and Todd Lebel; seven great-grandchildren; and the loving staff of Clover Assisted Living.
