LEWISTON – Lewiston Junior Maineiacs Peewee Travel Hockey started its season off with a flourish, winning two games an dtying one last weekend.
The sequence opened with a 4-4 road tie against Dover (N.H.) Stars. Lewiston took a 3-2 lead into the third period in a back-and-forth contest before Dover took the lead with a pair of goals. Lewiston notched the tie late in the proceedings. Brendon Croteau and Kyle Ullrich each tallied a goal and an assist. Cameron Stewart and Caleb Labrie each added a goal. Trent Spaulding was netminder for Lewiston.
Lewiston applied the pressure from the get-go in its trip to Kennebec, picking up a 3-2 victory. The Juniors enjoyed a three-to-one shots advantage and used a late goal by Labrie to eke out the victory. Labrie scored two goals and added an assist. Stewart snagged the other goal. Jacob Charest and Jonathan Sturgis each registered an assist. Kyle Welsh made some timely saves to lift Lewiston.
Mid-Coast Storm visited the Maineiacs to wrap up the set, and Lewiston served up home cooking with a 5-1 verdict. The Juniors led 2-1 after two periods before expanding the lead. Labrie again led the way with two goals. Morin collected the game winner on a nifty tic-tac-toe pay from Jed Drapeau and Ullrich. Charest and Brady Cusson also scored for Lewiston. Stewart and Drapeau each collected two assists, with one each from Sturgis, Kyle Zamrock and Ullrich. Spaulding was solid between the pipes.
This year’s Jr. Maineiacs are led by head coach Keith Pomerleau and assistants Peter Austin, John Cusson and Lucien Richard.
