LEWISTON — The Dr. Paul Fortier Chapter, No. 52, of the Association
Canado-Américaine will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, in the Senior
Citizens Room of the Multi-Purpose Center.

Following the group’s monthly business meeting, members will be
invited to stay for refreshments and socializing. More information is

Adoption meeting

LEWISTON — The Lewiston office of the Department of Health and
Human Services will host a public informational meeting about
adoption and foster care on Monday, Nov. 2, for all
interested people to attend. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and is
expected to end by 8:30 p.m.

Those considering adoption or foster care through the Maine
Department of Health and Human Services are encouraged to attend the

Babysitter’s course

LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine is accepting registrations for
the American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training course to be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Mondays, Nov. 2 to 23. 
In order to be certified, students must attend all classes and must be
age 11 but not yet 16 by Nov. 23.

Students will learn about the
basic care of infants and young children, safety and safe play with
children, and, upon successful completion, will be certified in
American Red Cross Child and Infant CPR, as well as American Red Cross
Babysitter’s Training.

The cost for the course is $35 for YWCA members and $60 for
nonmembers. The classes will take place in the Vachon Room at the
YWCA, 130 East Ave. Limited space is available. Register
by calling the YWCA of Central Maine at 795-4050.

Widows fellowship

LISBON FALLS — The Lisbon Area Widows Fellowship will meet on Monday, Nov. 2, at the Lisbon United Methodist Church, School
Street. The gathering will begin for fellowship at
11:30 a.m. followed by a potluck lunch.

All interested widows in the area are invited to attend. The group
meets the first Monday of each month unless a holiday.

H.S. meeting

BOWDOIN — The Bowdoin Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, at the former Bowdoin
Central School. Reports will be given, officers elected for the
upcoming year and dues paid.

The Rev. Lufkin will present a preview of the society’s new Web
site. Jayne Bickford will dedicate the podium and plaque in memory of
Charlene Bickford Bartlett, who died Nov. 20, 2007, and who was a
co-organizer of the Bowdoin Historical Society. The podium will be
permanently placed in the former selectmen’s office as it becomes a
museum. Members desiring to do so will be given an opportunity to share
special memories of Bartlett.

Members are asked to bring something for the refreshment table. Members are urged
to attend and the public is invited. New members are welcome.

Lung cancer

AUGUSTA — The Lung Cancer Alliance will have the third annual Shine a Light on Lung Cancer event at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, on the steps of the State House. Participants are invited to bring a candle to honor those who have been touched by the disease. Kip Deserres, vice president of health initiative for the American Cancer Society, will speak.
