LEWISTON — Central Maine Medical Center’s Wellness Solutions will offer the following programs beginning Monday, Nov. 2:
Bellydancing: Imari (aka Lisa Cummings) will lead the six-week series presenting bellydancing as a therapeutic and energetic cardiovascular exercise suitable for all ages and body types. Classes will be held from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m.Wednesdays.
Cardio Funk: The ongoing class will feature a combination of cardiovascular exercise mixed with some of today’s latest dance moves. Instructor is Glen Atkins. The class will meet from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Mondays, from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturdays.
Cardio Sculpt and Sweat: The ongoing series, lead by Ian Barclay, will combine low-impact moves with weight training, targeting major muscle groups while addressing hard to reach spots. The classes will be held from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Thursdays.
Core and More: Led by Heather Small, the ongoing series will focus on abdominal work and exercises that work the hips, thighs, chest and triceps. Class will meet from 5 to 5:45 a.m.
Mondays.
Fit-n-Fun: The exercise class is designed for the over-55 crowd and will focus on helping participants improve aerobic capacity, strength, flexibility, balance and coordination. The instructor for the series is Marcy Covey. The class will meet from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Flexible Body, Flexible Life: Bette Swett-Thibeault will lead the six-week series designed to move participants carefully toward fitness, developing dynamic strength and flexibility. The program includes light aerobics, circuit training, stretches and floor work, as well as ball work for balance and core strength. Class will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays.
Functional Fitness: Participants will learn to increase both core and upper body strength and improve the stability of abdominal and low back muscles. Participants will discover how to prevent injury due to improper body mechanics and repetitive motion. Class will be held from noon to 12:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Happy Hearts: The class is designed for people with a cardiac event history including angioplasty, stents, heart attack, cardiac arrest, valve surgery, coronary artery bypass, stable angina and transplants who have completed a cardiac rehabilitation program and are looking for a maintenance program. The instructor is Sue Driscoll. The class will meet at 8 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Personal Fitness: The class will begin with a one-on-one evaluation and program development session with a personal health counselor, then progress to a structured group exercise plan. Classes will be held at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m.
and 10:45 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Pilates: The series, led by Tina Sirois, will cover core strengthening and stretching exercises with light weights, therabands and flex-a-balls. Pilates will meet from 4:15 to 5 p.m.
Thursdays.
Power Plus: The weight training program will incorporate simple cardio moves to elevate metabolism and burn fat. Sessions will finish with a cool down with yoga stretch. The class will meet from 5:15 to 6:30 a.m. Thursdays.
Step Aerobics: The workout alternates step with muscle work using weights or tubing. Led by Sue Driscoll, the cardio workout is a head-to-toe body strengthener. Class will be held from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Yoga: Certified yoga instructor Marcy Covey will lead the series of yoga classes. Participants will learn to center and balance themselves through poses, breathing exercises, meditation and relaxation. Classes will be held from 4:45 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays. Fees
differ for once- and twice-a-week participation.
YouthFit “Move And Learn”:
A 12-week series designed for those between 7 and 17 years of age who are overweight or at risk for obesity. Each class will focus on an educational module regarding nutrition, physical activity and/or self-esteem, followed by an exercise game where the child can use what they learn in a physical exercise. Class will met from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Tuesdays.
Zumba: The Latin-inspired dance exercise program uses a variety of basic dance styles set to international music such as merengue, salsa and reggaetone. The six-week program will be led by Cynthia Nicholas and will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays.
All programs are offered in the CMMC Health and Wellness Center, 12 High Street Medical Office Building.
Fees are assessed for participation in these programs and must be paid prior to beginning the program. Class registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Membership in the CMMC Wellness Center is open to the public.
