Because the bulldog of W. D. Cooley, a Sabattus street confectioner, killed a cat Monday noon, there was trouble between Mr. Cooley and Howard A. Teague, undertaker, and it is alleged Mr. Teague struck Mr. Cooley several times and knocked him down. Mr. Cooley has been in poor health and as a result of the alleged assault is ill abed and under care of a physician. It is understood that Mr. Cooley has, or will, retain an attorney.

Mark H. Burke, secretary of the Lewiston-Auburn Shoeworkers Protective Association, reported last night that as yet the cut in the basic pay rate for piece workers at the Panther Moccasin Manufacturing Co. Inc., Railroad Street, Auburn, has not gone into effect.
As a result of arbitration the cut in the basic rate was ordered. The impartial arbitrator granted a 6% cut.
According to Burke, the company is running old orders at the higher pay scale. However, there are reports that the company will put the new pay scale into effect with new orders.

LITCHFIELD — The 127th annual meeting of the Litchfield Farmers Club, sponsors of the annual Litchfield Fair, will be held Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at Happy Jack’s Restaurant in Lewiston.
Farmers Club members who plan to attend the annual supper meeting should contact Secretary Muriel Bonin or Assistant Secretary Rayne Leibowitz before Nov. 7.
