SWEDEN — A Sweden man faces possible charges stemming from a Friday incident, which led to authorities surrounding his home for a brief period of time.
Deputy William Nelson of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office said that the case against Tim Kelly, 41, remains under investigation. The Waterford Road man could face charges stemming from an assault earlier in the evening that led to police arriving at his home late Friday night.
Nelson said that Kelly was not actually barricaded in his home as part of a standoff with authorities. He said that deputies with the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office went there to speak with Kelly Friday night after another man reported that he was assaulted by Kelly at the VFW Post 6783 on Smarts Hill Road in Lovell. Nelson said that the sheriff’s department took added precautions due to past experience with Kelly.
Nelson said that investigators were still determining whether or not the assault was a simple assault, which would mean Kelly being summoned to court, or an aggravated assault, which would lead to an immediate arrest. Nelson said he called and asked Kelly to come out and speak with authorities, but did not feel the situation warranted breaking down the door when he refused.
Deputies were assisted by the Maine State Police and both agencies cleared the scene by 10:30 p.m.
