GREENE — The Greene Baptist Church, 102 Main St., will kick off a new contemporary service on Saturday, Nov. 7, with a performance by Stephanie
Israelson, who in May opened for MercyMe when the Christian band
performed in Augusta. The free show will begin at 7 p.m.
Israelson has a Covenant Award from Canada’s Gospel Music Association and has been nominated for five others.
“I’m excited Stephanie will bring a positive message of hope to our community,” said concert organizer Tracy Dyer. “People coming to the show can expect an upbeat message with Israelson’s contemporary style that reaches young and old alike.”
“The service will be one of mostly contemporary music,” Pastor Chet Garrison said. “We are trying to reach a younger, 20- to 40-ish, crowd, along with teens and anyone else who like a more contemporary service.”
The new service will officially begin on Saturday, Nov. 14, and will include worship music, a message by Youth Pastor Joshua Rose and prayer. The contemporary services will be held at 7 p.m. each week. The traditional service will continue to be held at 10:45 a.m. Sunday.
