Paul Denis Levesque
1928 – 2009

STATESVILLE, N.C. — Paul Denis Levesque, 81, formerly of Lewiston and Cochituate, Mass., died Saturday, Nov. 7, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville, N.C.

He grew up in Lewiston, graduating from Lewiston High School in 1946. Paul served in the U.S. Army occupation forces in Europe from 1946 to 1948. After being honorably discharged, he attended Bates College, graduating in 1952. He began his career in accounting in Lewiston, later accepting positions in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. In 1967, he relocated his family to Statesville, N.C., to become financial controller and later treasurer with Hunt Manufacturing Company, where he remained until his retirement in 1990.

Paul was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1963. Throughout his life, he resolutely fought the progressing disease and also overcame lymphoma, his strong spirit and faith never diminished by the physical setbacks. Paul had a wonderful sense of humor and an everlasting twinkle in his eye. By word and action, he imparted many lifelong lessons and was always an inspiration to his family. Until his final hospitalization, he was blessed to be able to remain at home with his sweetheart Connie, thanks to the compassionate care of Sheila Gagean.

He was a devoted, loving husband for 59 years to Constance (Bernier), who survives him. He is also survived by four children and their families; Christine Levesque and her husband, Robert Mickler, of Raleigh, N.C., Ann Grasso and her husband, Robert, of Asheville, N.C., Katherine Levesque of Raleigh, and Steven Levesque of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. He leaves behind six grandchildren, Lewis and Nathan Biddell, Sarah and Jeffrey Mickler, and Stephanie and Caroline Grasso. He is also survived by his sister Lorraine Adams of Lewiston; his sisters-in-law Josie Levesque and Connie Levesque of Lewiston, and Claire Levesque of Cundy’s Harbor.

He was predeceased by his mother, Blanche (Paradis) Levesque; father, Cyprien A. Levesque; stepmother, Anna (Mercier) Levesque; brothers, Norman, Ronald, and Daniel; and brother-in-law, Jim Adams.
