JAY — Jay Middle School kicked off their sixth year of celebrating
peace, cooperation and tolerance with a concert assembly led by teacher
Patty Schoen and her band, Shephard’s Pie.
With the theme of “Imagine,” they entertained the crowd with songs
such as “All You Need is Love,” “We Are the World” and “We’re Waiting
on the World to Change.”
Catherine Siggens, Jay Middle School guidance counselor and civil
rights team advisor, introduced this year’s Civil Rights Team. They
shared their message of, “Be a bucket filler, not a bucket dipper.”
Livermore High School Civil Rights Team Advisor Helga Heyck and one of
her Civil Rights Team students Dustin Chapman, presented a stuffed
tiger, which is Jay’s mascot, as a gesture of friendship. The concert
ended with dancing and a rendition of “Takin’ Care of Homework.”
The Jay Middle School Pay It Forward Committee has been working with
the Franklin Country Children’s Task Force, funded by the United Way of
the Tri-Valley Area, for the past six years implementing their
anti-bullying program. Other schools interested in implementing a
bullying prevention program are encouraged to contact the Task Force at
