AUBURN — Dan Cozad drained a 3-pointer from the right corner with less than 10 seconds remaining to lift Navy Prep of Newport, RI over Central Maine Community College ,75-73, on Wednesday.
The Mustangs (2-1) came back from a 12-point deficit to lead 40-37 at the break. The second half brought eight lead changes in the final five minutes and saw the Rams (2-0) cash in from the charity stripe, converting 12 of 14 in the final frame.
All 14 members of the Mustang roster logged playing time and four hit for double figures, led by Tyler Smithgall’s 19 points. Cam Angell added 17 while Dan Jameison and Eric Goodwin each hit for 10. Matt Sceviour took the floor for the first time since suffering an ankle injury prior to the start of the season and scored nine points.
Cozad finished with a game-high 26 points including four treys and was 6-for-6 from the line. Kendall O’Neill registered 21 points and hit five from behind the arc and Nmandi Moh tallied 17 points.
The loss snaps a 15 game home winning streak for the Mustangs, who hadn’t dropped a regular season contest at Kirk Hall Gymnasium since the 2007-08 season.
