Nolia Mae Washburn
1923 – 2009
FREEPORT — Nolia Mae Washburn, 86, resident of Meadow Road in Durham, formerly of Shiloh Road in Durham, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the Freeport Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 11, 1923, in Durham, a daughter of Harvey and Nettie (Gatchell) White. She was educated in area schools and graduated from Lisbon Falls High School with the Class of 1941.
On Nov. 2, 1942, she married Robert W. Washburn and together they raised their family. Robert predeceased her on Dec. 30, 2004.
Nolia was employed for several years at Auerbach Shoe Company in Brunswick. She also owned and operated a home day care center at her home in Durham for many years, retiring in 1996.
She enjoyed playing bingo, taking trips to Foxwoods and was an avid collector of beanie babies. She mostly enjoyed devoting her time to her family and enjoyed spending winters in California with her daughter for several years.
She was predeceased by her husband, six brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include five sons, Robert W. Washburn Jr. of Durham, James Washburn and his wife, Donna, of Durham, William Washburn of Durham, David Washburn of California, Linwood Washburn and his wife, Earlene, of Brunswick; a daughter, Marjorie Brammer of California; one brother, Douglas White of Lisbon Falls; a sister, Neota Sherman of Litchfield; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
WASHBURN — Nolia May, 86, resident of Meadow Road in Durham, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, in Freeport. Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15, at Crosman Funeral Home, 40 Main Street, Lisbon Falls. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 16, at the funeral home with Reverend Ronald Parker officiating. Interment will follow in the Lunt Cemetery, Brunswick.
