The Lewiston Public Works Board took steps last night to crack down on excessive freeloading of sand and salt this winter.

The department will send out trucks as usual this winter, to distribute free sand to residents. The PWB set a limit of 100 pounds per house, and persons picking up sand at the PWD yard will be limited to 100 pounds.

PWD Director George J. Maher said some citizens were carrying things a bit too far when they appeared at the PWD yard with a large truck and asked for a power shovel to load the truck.
