High School Football Top 10

1. Bangor (11-0)

Hard to believe it’s been five years since the last time the Rams played for a Gold Ball.

2. Windham (10-1)

They took out some of the challengers on their own (Deering, Portland, Bonny Eagle, Cheverus) and got some help on some others (Thornton Academy), but the Eagles were easily the most consistent team in Western A from Week 1.

3. Cheverus (8-3)

Special teams are the most maddening one-third of the game. The Stags blocked two punts, but a missed extra point was all that separated them from Windham.

4. Leavitt (11-0)

How many teams have both Eastern and Western Maine titles in their trophy cases?

5. Cape Elizabeth (11-0)

That sound you heard around 3:30 p.m. Saturday was the football fans of Cape Elizabeth collectively breathing a sigh of relief.

6. Thornton (10-1)

Will Trojans rebuild or reload in 2010?

7. Brunswick (9-2)

Dragons met their physical match in Bangor, but can take heart in having their best season since the Dick Leavitt-led PTC champs of 2003.

8. Lawrence (8-2)

Bulldogs might lose PTC Team of the Decade status if Bangor wins Saturday.

9. Dirigo (11-0)

How fast can the notoriously slow-starting Cougars get going on the Fitzpatrick Stadium turf? A Gold Ball may depend on it.

10. Foxcroft (11-0)

Six regional titles this decade says a lot. A third state title would say even more.
