PORTLAND — The Good Shepherd Food Bank is asking the public to help “Stuff-the-Truck” with food for the hungry from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Maine Mall. The truck will be located in the parking lot at the corner of Gorham Road and Philbrook Avenue.

The food bank has seen a 30 percent increase in need over the past year and partner agencies are reporting increases in need ranging from 25 to 50 percent. The growing need coupled with reduced food donations from large food distributors has caused the food bank to increase the amount of food product purchased for its partner agencies by 17 percent.

Canned meats and vegetables, cereal, rice, pasta, soups and juices are a few of the most needed items. Monetary donations are also greatly needed. For every $1 donated, the food bank can purchase and distribute $12.50 worth of food.
