LEWISTON — Members of the local chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma collect and distribute books for
babies to the two local hospitals and to Advocates for Children, with
the hopes of promoting early literacy. Enclosed along with the wrapped
and ribboned packages of books is information on the importance of
reading to children as early as possible.

Also included are library
schedules and an insert to recognize local organizations that
have helped the chapter reach their goal of delivering at least 50 books
monthly to each of the local hospitals and to Advocates for Children.

Local organizations which have joined with Delta Kappa Gamma International this year are the Mu Chapter of DKG, the Lewiston-Auburn Children’s Foundation, Auburn-Lewiston Rotary-Community Service, St. Mary’s Auxiliary and the Lewiston Assembly International Order of Rainbow for Girls, who helped with the packaging as part of their service project.

Delta Kappa Gamma is an international teachers organization that’s purpose includes to advance the professional
interest of women in education, to initiate and endorse legislation in
the interest of education, to endow scholarships, to stimulate personal
and professional growth of members and encourage their participation in
programs of action and to inform members of current economic, social,
political and educational issues.
