100 years ago, 1909
The special committee appointed by the Lewiston & Auburn Merchants’ Association has just completed arrangements whereby a grand exhibition of manufactured products of the industries of Lewiston and Auburn will be held in City Hall during Merchants’ Week. This will be a big feature. It will advertise the two cities and attract hundreds of people from out of town. Another boom for these cities and evidence of enterprise on the part of the merchants.
50 years ago, 1959
Bates College trustees last night dedicated a room to the memory of their late colleague, Louis B. Costello.
The simple ceremonies and unveiling of a plaque were held in the room in Chase Hall which was named for the Lewiston newspaper publisher and longtime member of the college’s board of trustees.
The plaque was unveiled by Lewiston Chamber of Commerce President Russell H. Costello, who said he was happy to have the privilege of unveiling the plaque dedicating the room to his father.
25 years ago, 1984
Three area residents have graduated from the 49th Municipal/County Basic Police School of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy at Waterville.
The graduates are officer Jeffrey Parshall of the Lewiston Police Department; officer Glenn Darby of the Lisbon Police Department; and officer Patricia Strohla of the Winthrop Police Department.
