Probably the only kindergarten music class in the city is that taught by Miss Mabel C. Johnson of Shawmut Street. This class which meets each Saturday morning is taught sight reading, ear training and hand forming, and at the end of the course of 20 lessons, it is expected that these little people can play simple melodies. Miss Johnson has a complete outfit for this purpose.
50 years ago, 1959
A string quartet composed of Dr. Booth G. Leavitt, first violin; Dort Bigg, second violin; Harold Davis, viola; and Erwin C. Brown, cello, will present a program Wednesday at an assembly at Edward Little High School.
The musicians are being sponsored by Lewiston Musicians Association, Local 409. The concert is made possible by a grant of the Music Performance Trust Funds of the recording industries and is provided as a free public service.

A fire which caused extensive damage Tuesday night to a storage building at Fairlawn Golf Course, resulted from an electrical problem, according to Fire Chief Ernest M. Fitts.He said he and State Fire Inspector Barry Norris examined the premises Wednesday and found that wires were overheating and the fire apparently started when insulation on a wire was broken, causing a short circuit.
