A football game Saturday afternoon on the A.A.A. Park between Crescents of Lewiston and the Buroughs of Portland ended in a dispute near the close of the first half. The trouble was over a forward pass made by the Crescents. Umpire O’Brien held that the pass was illegal as it looked to the majority of the spectators, while referee Lizotte claimed that the pass was all right. The play put the Lewiston team within striking distance of the goal and on the next play a touchdown was scored. The Portland boys refused to play under the circumstances.

Recent rains have raised havoc with numerous streets and roads in Lewiston and Public Works Department Director George J. Maher said last night most of the city’s rural roads probably will be rough this winter.

Maher pointed out the recent rainy spell caused a great number of pot holes in streets and roads. Rural roads had been graded and then froze, but the warmer weather and rains softened them and caused the pot holes.

Maher said the PWD will try to get the rural roads smoothed out again before they freeze for the winter.
